Reading and math instruction that actually works.

One-on-one tutoring grounded in the science of reading and structured literacy. Reading K–12. Math K–5. Taught by a dually certified Special Education Teacher and Reading Specialist with 11+ years of experience.

Is this for your child?

Tutoring is the right fit when classroom instruction isn't enough.

Your child has been falling further behind in reading despite the school's intervention. You suspect dyslexia, or it has already been identified, and the current approach isn't getting traction.

Math facts won't stick. Word problems shut your child down. Number sense is missing in ways that homework alone can't fix. You need someone who teaches math as a skill to be built, not a test to be passed.

Your child has an IEP that includes reading or math goals, and you want outside instruction that aligns with what the school is doing — or fills the gaps the school isn't.

Your child is bright but is starting to say things like "I'm just dumb" or "I'll never get this." You need someone who can teach the skills and rebuild the confidence at the same time.

The approach

Evidence-based, individualized to your child.

Explicit & systematic

Skills are taught directly, in a logical sequence, with each new skill building on previously taught skills. No guessing, no gaps.

Multisensory

Instruction engages multiple senses at once — saying, writing, tracing, hearing — because struggling learners benefit from multiple pathways to memory.

Diagnostic & responsive

Each session checks for understanding and adjusts based on what your child has and hasn't mastered. The pace is set by the child, not the calendar.

Aligned with the IEP

For students with IEPs, sessions complement the school's goals when possible. Open communication with the school team is encouraged when families want it.

Thank you so much for all the time, energy and love you put into learning what teaching modalities would work best for my son.

Common questions

Things parents often ask.

What grades and subjects do you tutor?

Reading instruction is offered for grades K–12. Math intervention is offered for grades K–5. All sessions are taught one-on-one by a dually certified Special Education Teacher and Reading Specialist.

What approach do you use for reading?

Structured Literacy — an evidence-based approach grounded in the science of reading. Instruction is explicit, systematic, multisensory, and tailored to the student's specific profile. This is the recommended approach for students with dyslexia and other reading-based learning disabilities.

Are sessions in-person or virtual?

Both options are available. In-person sessions are offered in the Wilmington, NC area. Virtual sessions are offered nationwide via secure video. Many families do a mix of both, depending on schedule and what works best for their child.

Do you work with students who don't have an IEP?

Yes. Tutoring services are open to any student who would benefit, whether they have an IEP, a 504 plan, a diagnosis without formal services, or no diagnosis at all but persistent academic struggle.

How often should we schedule sessions?

Most students benefit from 2 or 3 sessions per week initially, especially for reading intervention. Once skills are in place and progress is steady, frequency can be reduced. We discuss this during the initial consultation based on your child's specific needs.

Will you communicate with my child's school?

If you want me to. Coordinating with the school team can help align outside tutoring with what's happening during the school day. Many families find this useful, but it's always your call.
